BMW - OIL Cap - ccx

Hi,

Probably basic questions but can I open the engine oil cap whilst the engine is still hot (90) but turned off - so turning engine off after a drive and then instantly opening the oil cap.

I assume this will cause no issues?

And

Is it possible to fit the oil cap back on incorrectly? would it be obvious? Would the car show a warning light?

Thanks

No problem removing the cap although it can be hot. Pretty difficult to put back on wrongly also, as there are usually lugs to make sure it engages properly before it will rotate.

All good advice above . Also , if the car has no dipstick I would suggest you read the procedure for topping up and level checking in the handbook. Running the engine with the oil cap not refitted correctly can cause the engine fault light to illuminate.
