Toyota Yaris - High level brakelight - bathtub tom

My Yaris has an LED third brakelight. One (of six) LEDs has failed. I've dismantled it and it doesn't seem practical to replace the single LED. The unit's an eighty quid replacement!

MOT seems to suggest that if fewer than half the elements have failed, it's a 'minor'. I presume that's an 'advisory?'

Annoyingly, I can find strings of six LEDs on ebay for a couple of quid. I may give it a go, unless anyone knows of anyone doing it?

Perhaps a new career?

The problem with most car led lighting, is that the lamps are usually sealed units . Any attempt at trying to repair them often ends up destroying something. Perhaps a s/hand unit could be bought? You are right about the mot ,these come under the 50% rule ,where at least half the light must function. However ,hi level brake light check during an mot is a very grey area amongst mot stations.
