VW Golf 1.6tdi SE DSG - Coolant drain and refill - privateinvestor

Good afternoon,

I am thinking of changing the coolant in my car. Does this car have an easily located radiator drain valve to facilitate this procedure? I will ensure the heater is turned on and all airlocks removed during the drain and refill. In addition, I am told to use deionised water as well along with G!3 or equivalent.

Thank you in advance.

Why do you want to change the coolant? I siphon some out each year (yogurt pot) and pop it in the freezer overnight, that's -20c. If it's still liquid I leave well alone.

No drain plug on these, ,but have you tried testing the coolant using this method?www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-gceYx_3RE .

I agree about the freezer bit, however, I think the main reason that coolant needs changing is that it looses its anti corrosion properties.

How?

(Not the heater, the airlock removal.)

Not always easy, and IIRC VW's get special mention in the not always easy class

I ended up deliberately boiling the coolant on my Skywing recently, though I doubt that's an "approved" procedure.
