Hi all,

Was thinking of getting one of these from a main dealer around 2008.

Does anyone have one I’ve read great reviews albeit they are a bit on the long side.

Any advice would be appreciated

I may be wrong, but I don’t think Lexus dealers will have 11 year old cars in stock.
I’d suspect you’ll be looking at either independent dealers or private sales.

The oldest main dealer approved used example I can find in the UK (on Autotrader anyway) is a 2012 car with six figures up and near £22k pricetag. Buy this then try trading it in elsewhere after a year and you’ll be lucky to get £7-£8k back for it. Nice as they are it doesn’t add up at this sort of money and despite the excellent quality and reliability the v8 hybrid is a very complex big car and not something I’d buy on the cheap unless you can afford to maintain it regardless of cost or bin it and walk away if anything big fails. The battery pack will be at the tail end of its lifespan too and will no doubt be cripplingly expensive to replace.

Instead I’d go for a simpler and just as luxurious non-hybrid car instead. Yes it’ll cost around £250 a year more to tax but that’s buttons when it’ll cost half the money and thus depreciate far less painfully. That said don’t buy one of these if money is an issue and if there’s no decent Lexus dealer or genuine specialist within range.

Or go down the cheaper road and get the older LS430. Lot of metal for £6k.

There are a very limited number of people that know anything about the Lexus 600H - the number sold was essentially 10 years ago - in the last few years maybe a handful per year.

Any maintenance, other than oil changes etc will have to be at Lexus eye watering hourly rate.

Not all Lexus dealers put their approved used cars on Autotrader. On the Lexus website there is a 2008 LS600H with 90,000 miles in Guildford and another with 21,000 miles in Coventry. Even at that age, I believe they will still come with a comprehensive 1 year warranty.

Although we actually have two Lexus hybrids in our family, I'd agree with SLO76, at that age with such a large and complicated car, keep to the non hybrid version.

Old flagship cars from Japanese and German manufacturers can be amazing bargains, as long as you can do the basic servicing stuff yourself. The main mechanical and electrical bits should be reliable even though some of the non-essential bells and whistles (and this car has an orchestra!) might fail. If you like a bit of a gamble and are a low mileage driver - go ahead and enjoy!

As regards the battery pack, a hybrid health check done by a Lexus dealer extends the battery warranty by 1 year/10,000 miles. The battery warranty can be extended up to the car's 15th birthday - same as Toyota. Cost if not done with a Lexus service currently £59.

Lexus servicing - Essential Care covers cars over five years old, and current costs for the LS600 are Intermediate £245 and Full £425 and all services include the hybrid health check.

Check out Doug DeMuro on youtube, he has just done a review of a 2010 model.

I'm sure it will be an amazing ride etc, but luxobarges are for the enthusiast with potentially deep pockets. However I'd have more confidence in a 10 year old Lexus over an S class or 7 series.

Or a 13yr old all-aluminium W12 A8 for a fraction of the price of that Lexobarge....

Added bonus - pre March 2006 RFL was only £315 this year.

Routine servicing is "reasonable" the ££ problems occur when there are repairs - even requirements of exhausts, brakes, air suspension not to mention electronics are eye watering & then £120+/ hour soon adds up - it might be a £15K LS600H but the labour rates & parts are still that of an £80K car.

There are few people in the UK with in-depth knowledge of an LS600H within Lexus & outside the Lexus franchises?

I had a lawyer as a customer 40 years ago - modest computer to run client accounting - 2 screen system cost roughly £100K, annual maintenance was £8,000.. He wanted to ditch the contract & do PAYG for parts & labour (no callouts in nearly 3 years). Labour was then some £120 / hour - he replied "I can get a QC for less!" My retort was " But can he fix your computer?

I know 2 serial Lexus owners. One has a 600hL but more frequently uses his older LS430. The other also now runs a 430...
