Toyota MR2 - any good pre-purchase inspection? - AntonioG

Hi,

I have found a very nice MR2 but I would like to be completely sure the car has no rust or any other problems. Any recommendation on ppi please?

Thanks

Given the type of car, i think i'd be looking to see if their is an owners forum or club. if you are really lucky, there may be a member not far away who would be willing to have a look. Failing that, a forum/club member who can tell you exactly where to look and what to look for. Yes, i know you can get AA inspections, but with a car like this, i'm not sure how they would assess it. But, at the end of the day, if you are unsure yourself, an AA inspection would probably be worth the money, and certainly better than going by your own assessment.

Here is a link to a (UK) MR2 owners club/forum website.

With a car this age the best thing you can do is beg or borrow a knowledgeable person to view it for you. I’d sooner pay a local mechanic to look it over than have an AA or RAC inspection done. They will judge it as if it was a new car and lost every minor defect, most likely you’ll run a mile from a perfectly decent old car if you read their report.

I’ve had people pay out for such inspections on older cars before only to walk away from what was a very decent old car because the assessor had listed every tiny bit of wear or corrosion.
