The Mongolia special is IMHO the best ever adventure involving the three lads.

But the real star is the kit car they named John.

Who makes these cars for the third world ?

Never watched an episode, as i don't have Amazon Prime. But doing a quick search, i found some pics of what i assume you refer to.

It does not look like something 'produced' as such, more like something someone just made out of bits and pieces. Couldn't see that much from the few pics i could find, but the dashboard and windscreen appear to be from a Landrover. It also appears to have a live axle at the front (which could point to it also using a Landrover chassis), though i couldn't see if it had leaf or coil springs at the front (if it was a Landrover chassis, that would point to whether it was an earlier 'series' model, which would have leaf springs, or the subsequent 90/110/Defender, which had coils). But of course there are plenty of other 4x4's with a live axle which could form the mechanical basis.

There is lots of competition to win the contract for the UN sponsored car but one thing in common is the choice of Transit Diesel engine.
John had a LR TDI

It used a load of different Land Rover mechanicals and what appears to be a bespoke frame. The info attached to the programme gave all the details.

It was one of the better GT specials although there wil be no more GT apart from specials from now on. A shame, but probably wise.

As Top Gear morphed from a car information programme to entertainment with a motoring slant, it depended upon the presenter relationships to keep the interest. Hence TG has floundered and GT has been a relative success.

I do like James May on his own though. He is the televsion version of LJK Setright.

So the GT is no more? I watched it last year, but found it so tedious that I no longer have Amazon Prime. Shame as some TG and GT episodes were excellent.

I'd have enjoyed it more if it wasn't faked so much.

They weren't dropped "in the middle of nowhere with no roads".

There were plenty of roads which they conveniently didn't film, including a direct one to their finish point.

As for their food supplies bouncing out of the back of the car and leaving them with none. Total rubbish.

If it was not faked as much though the programme would not work as well as they have to make the entertainment part of there would be not as much to watch.
