I see that the Morgan Motor Company has sold a majority stake to an Italian consortium. Was this the end of British owned car manufacturing?

A very disappointing development - I'm sorry for the craftsmen and employees who must be wondering where this will lead.

I've still got the owner's handbook for my father's pre-war 4/4 which he sold just before WW2.

A few years back that last of the Morgan CEOs was voted out / off the board - start of the selling off process?

Sad really.

Absolutely love the 3 wheeler, including the electric version. That episode of Top Gear where Hammond had the Morgan 3 wheeler, the expressions on the faces of Clarkson and May when Hammond started doing donuts was priceless!.

I really worry about what this new developement will mean for the company and employees.

Fond memories of the TV program some years ago with John Harvey-Jones who visited Morgan Factory and suggested ways they could improve productivity, reduce the 6 year long waiting list and increase profits substantially.

The owners/managers at the time ignored the great man and carried on regardless.

I guess if you only appeal to older, well healed clients your customers soon die off.

Since that programme Morgan have changed, production has increased and waiting lists fallen. Just because John Harvey-Jones was a guru in some industry's does not mean his methods would have worked at Morgan.

Hopefully the buyers can see the value in the brand and build on that.

I had a vague interest in the modern 3 wheeler, until I found out the serious problems owners have had and are still having with the drive-line and final reduction drive.

(Edit - sorry about swear filter, which picked up d r i v e l ! I've put a hyphen in.)

I really worry about what this new developement will mean for the company and employees.

I don't know how things are now, but a decade or two ago many people who ordered a new Morgan just put it up for sale when it finally arrived, and made a few bob. So the public may have made as much profit as the makers?

The current CEO/Chairman is not a technologist, engineer, salesman, or car company man, he's a venture capitalist- says it all really!

Who's that then?

Dominic Riley.

Dominic Riley is the new chairman, but the company is being run by Steve Morris who has been at Morgan for over 30 years.

Why do you think they will stop making Morgans in the UK?

Morgan - All - End of an Era - Sofa Spud

Morgan must be the only company to make retro-styled cars loosely based on a classic design while also continuing to make the original classic design as well!

I think you missed the word "owned" Alan. Are there any British owned manufacturers left?

Ah, yes - I did - sorry!

Don't think there are any left now...although personally more interested where a company produces the vehicle rather than who owns them.
