Vauxhall Corsa - Is the dent in my car fixable at home? - caseyk
Hello , I’m just looking for advice on whether I am able to fix the dent in my car at home or whether it would need to be seen by a mechanic. I scraped it against a tree stump when reversing out of a driveway and it is dented on the right rear panel just underneath the fuel cap. It’s minor but noticeable so I’d like to get it sorted but I’m reluctant to spend a fortune to get it fixed.

Amateur attempts at body repairs usually end up looking worse than the original damage. Perhaps a smart repair could make it look better, other than that it would need to be a professional repair. If it’s an old car, then may not be worth the expense.

Impossible to say if it easily repairable without seeing it. You can get DIY dent pulling tools, but if the metal has been stretched, that will result in it sticking out. But trying to fill a dent smoothly, on any surface whether flat or curved, is very difficult. Then, if you have had to fill it, you have then got to paint it!. If it was an older car, not worth much, i'd probably give it a go myself (but i have some experience of what is involved having worked in car body repair shops, albeit a long time ago!). But if it is a younger car, or one you really like, it would be better getting it dealt with professionally.

There are franchises that will come to your house or work. You could send a photo of the damage and they will give you an idea. The dent may come out or be best filled. Using body filler and rubbing down to a fine finish is fairly easy. What is a lot more difficult is using the cans of primer and finished colour to get a decent job. If your car is worth decent money best to get a professional.
