Ford - Janae Silver

Hi,

My name is Janae. I am currently an MBA student at Temple University in Pennsylvania, USA. My team is working on a marketing project for academic purposes. We are not working on behalf of Ford. We are researching Ford of Britain and its perception. We would greatly appreciate if you could take some time to complete our survey.

I started the survey and gave up a short way in.

Really, it hasn't been thought out properly and is highly frustrating to answer.

Questions about why anyone would buy a car omit Handling - one of the most important criteria.

"Sedan" is not a term used in the UK and I'm not sure what, precisely, it means.

Then there are various questions asking me to rate Ford cars as a whole against various criteria. Unless you are familiar with the whole range, it's impossible to answer. Even then, it's going to be difficult to average out a whole lot of different models. In any case, most people would be able to answer only with reference to a particular model or two.

As a post-graduate research student myself I really feel you need to get this right.

A Sedan is a saloon car, typically with four doors and a seperate boot (think BMW 3, 5 and 7 series).

Curious though as to why the OP has chosen the 'non motoring' section of the forum to post this survey on Ford?!

What does OP mean ?

Original poster, i.e. you!

Thank you for your feedback. I have shared it with my team.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for participating in my group's survey for our mid term presentation. Based on the results we collected from our previous survey, we created a shorter follow-up survey for our final presentation. We would greatly appreciate your help again. Thanks in advance! What FP states is relevant here. We own a Focus, prior to that another Focus and a Fiesta. that is the limit of our experience with Ford over the past 6 years. The much maligned Ecoboost engine has been fine for us and a good performer. Perhaps the OP would be better of researching the reviews written for various Ford models on other sections of the forum. Also if Autocar etc have their reviews online they would help. Bit fed up with surveys, they pop up like mushrooms and the questions sometimes seem facile.

Moved to Motoring.

Thank you

As we own a Ford, I took a chance and clicked on it - it seems safe and genuine enough, although what conclusions they will draw from the responses to questions asked puzzles me.

"Questions about why anyone would buy a car omit Handling - one of the most important criteria."

Indeed - but American cars don't do handling, whuch would explain the omission!

Some of the questions are so hard to answer sensibly that they're meaningless, e.g. 'what is your experience of owning / leasing / driving / parking?'

The problem with university surveys like this - and I don't blame Janae for this - is that everything has to be fed into a computer, so the tick-box approach is king. The results are of no use to anyone, except to get the students through this stage of their degree. and they are filed, never to be seen again.

Anyone actually interested in seeing what's good and bad about Fords, or any cars, should look at the owners' reviews on this site. Long-term tests done by the magazines can be useful too.

“American cars don’t do handling”. Lazy stereotype and may have been true some years ago but not really true now.

It was true 15 years ago when the hire cars I drove were luxury barges: huge, comfortable, and with handling characteristics of an oil tanker.

It may be a stereotype, but what is not a stereotype is that American cars (in general) inhabit a road scene different from ours. Distances travelled can be much greater, highways straighter and wider, so 'handling' may be a much lower priority for many. On the other hand, many Americans have taken to the European smaller-car model, which has showed them what 'handling' actually means.
