Volvo V70 - Decided to keep - barney100

2008 2.5D with 120k, I've been looking round for a replacement, Tiguan or the like but decided to get the Volvo serviced and keep it going, needed a couple of tyres, nothing to lose really.

I assume this is the model just before the electric parking brake was fitted, brilliant car, my son had the S60 saloon version with the 188bhp (i think) engine, it pulled like a train, had it been the estate version he would have kept it much longer.

If you haven't already done so, do remove the rear disc/drums and check the parking brake shoes, these can delaminate and can actually lock the wheel solid, make sure you have a couple of days grace though because the shoe hold down springs get weak so new springs might be required as well new shoes if they are needed, not something the average factor would hold in stock.

Thanks for that, it's getting the once over Weds so I'll mention it. It does have the electric brake but so far so good!.

Ah, EPB would be completely different, ignore my previous post.

I've had a lot of large estate cars. Every so often I've managed to persuade myself that I don't need one any more and gone for something trendier. I have never failed to regret those occasions and ultimately always gone back to what is for me the best solution to all my motoring needs and wants, a large, comfortable estate car.

No reason to suspect that your Volvo won't give you many more miles and or years of great service if you keep it fettled.

I rack the miles up pretty quickly, but I've had no problems running several cars up to 200,000 miles with no more than routine maintenance.

I think old estates exhibit much the same characteristics as decent whisky and good wine when it comes to their relationship with age...
