I've read that Suzuki are not expecting a significant uplift in sales share compared to the old model. They may have to revise that projection if it's on-road drive improves compared to the old. Reading a few reviews, it seems to be much better. I think they're going to sell a lot.
Much as i love it, i'm not sure i'd agree with that Sulphur Man. I think the Jimny will continue to be very much a niche product. 1, it is a very small car with either 4 seats and a tiny boot, or 2 seats and a decent sized boot, so no use as a family car. 2, it is quite expensive, so it is not really going to appeal to the SUV driver on a budget, even if they can manage with a car that small. In the Car article they state a price of £18k. Now even if that is for the top of the range version, as it appears there will only be 2 trim levels, i'm not sure if the lower one would be that much cheaper. Compare that price to the basic 1.6 petrol Dacia Duster (circa £10k), with much more space and practicality not to mention (probably), a more comfortable ride. OK, a Jimny would destroy it over really challenging terrain, but how many actually need that ability enough to justify buying the Jimny over the Duster?. 3, yes, it may well drive better than the current one, but, a, that wouldn't take much(!), and, b, it is still going to be something of a shock to the system for folk used to a 'normal' car.
I think it is quite possible for them to sell more than the current Jimny, but i don't think it will ever be a 'big' seller, as it is too compromised.
