Car Scrappage 2009 - Stored Cars - macski

A link to a YouTube video exploring what the poster says is remaining cars from the 2009 government vandalism program of 2009, the scrappage scheme.

I wonder if some of the cars look far to good a condition to have been stood in a field for up to nine years, others seemed to have been worth a lot more at the time to have been included in the scrappage scheme. Then there are the Porsches, according to the figures 21 Porsches were scrapped under the scheme in the video we have ten here, so what are the chances of that?

So anyone have any thought or may actually know what is going on.

And why so many nearly new cars?

Its a long video so I only dipped in. The guys making it seem well-meaning but alluding to "something going on here" are wide of the mark. The cars from the scheme are simply waiting to be scrapped which I think (I maybe wrong) also allowed them to be stripped for parts. Its a good thing that it seems to be being done methodically and that they weren't all just sent to the crusher on day 1. Its a but surprising that its taken 8 or more years but I guess there is a limited market so doing it slowly maybe the best way.

Now whether it was a good idea for potential classics to be scrapped is a different matter but it was never a secret.

The newer cars are in storage for other reasons. Probably fleet disposals awaiting auction?

I seem to remember that the rules at the time suggested that (to coin a phrase) Scrapping Meant Scrapping, which should have happened long before now? Maybe some people with an eye for the longer term 'bought them back' from the scrappers? I'm sure there was scope for evading procedures.

Andrew, on reflection, I think you are right on that. I had misread an article as saying that parts could be used when in fact the author was arguing that they should be available for use.
