Has anyone any experience of car servicing through Motor Easy - Good or bad? Also will servicing through them invalidate a manufacturer’s warranty? Motor easy quote £120 for a ‘basic’ service, whereas Pugeot’s fixed price service is £305. Tempted to cancel my booked Peugeot main dealer service.

Ask motor easy if they are able to carry out any Peugeot factory updates or reworks which often get addressed when a car is in for main dealer service. I would suspect not. Stick with the dealer,it may prove worthwhile in the future.

I'd suggest you ask Peugeot exactly what their service does (or does not) cover.

I note from motoreasy's website that they say : A MotorEasy service includes an oil change and wheels off brake check

I suspect there will be a lot of 'extra' work that is found to be needed at the time.

Something else to consider is will they be using genuine Peugeot parts? If not, then your warranty will definitely be down the pan.

Ring a couple of Peugeot dealers and see if you can get the same service cheaper, and ask what is replaced (oil, oil filter, air filter?, fuel filter?, pollen filter? Etc). There may be a lot of checks with not many actual bits replaced.

I agree with Rob here, the basic price may well be £120, but they will 'find' lots of other things that 'need doing'. You will almost certainly end up paying much closer to the Peugeot price. False economy in my opinion, but it's your car.

The Peugeot price appears to be extortionate, but full details of what is done isn't provided.

First job s to shop around a few dealers and see what they charge.

I would not use a generic outfit for a service on a new vehicle. Another question is is the car actually owned by OP or on a PCP type arrangement?

If PCP a main dealer servuce is generally part of the T & Cs.

If you go outside the franchised dealers, in theory your warranty is still valid. However as already advised above, this depends on the third party using the right parts and materials. Take oil, will a cutprice outfit really stock a range of oils to meet all manufacturers or models precise spec? Would you be able to prove what they'd used in the event if a subsequent claim when the manufacturer requires detailed proof of service history.

Most likely they will use a narrow range of bulk oils. Now I am pretty sure that, exotica aside, a good generic bulk synthetic oil will actually be OK. But it gives the manufacturer a get out if you try to claim for an engine fault under warranty. And of course a car maintained by a third party will not qualify for any goodwill repairs.

As others have said I'd shop around for the best franchised service deal and only consider other options when the warranty expires. Even then most manufacturers offer lower price servicing for older cars so the third party savings will be less.

I've just heard an ad for Peugeot, buy a new one and the first 2 services are £99 each.

With the £300+ price being quoted you can see whose making up the loss on the £99 jobs.

Thanks all for your thoughts. I booked the 3008’s service through Peugeot’s website and the cost is fixed - Even with the service being “according to manufacturers warranty” there was an additional option and cost for brake fluid change!
I am an owner/driver so naturally would be looking to keep costs down but have decided to go with the Peugeot service if only to make sure I preserve the warranty.

I'd seriously suggest cancelling the booking through the website and phoning (or going into) local dealers to get prices.

The last thing they want is idle workshop time, they may well do you a deal at better than the website price.

I'm assuming you didn't pay list price when you bought it, why start paying list price on the servicing ?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but you can have most Peugeot cars serviced at a Citroen dealer (they are both essentially the same company) in the same way you can have a Seat serviced at a Skoda dealer.
The warranty will not be invalidated.

May I suggest you phone the dealerships direct rather than the website, be prepared to state on the phone your not willing to pay that price and will take it to a different franchise.
Also worth finding if their is a local dealership chain nearby which covers Peugeot and another brand in the same showroom; I have known people to book their car in with the other brand at a cheaper rate but have essentially got a service done by the same team as their car manufacturer.
