This has a ton of companies as well (I am doing the same as you at the moment.. desperately trying to get an affordable quote on a 172 and failing miserably)

A lot of the brokers and online quote engines seem to use the same actual syndicates/companies.
The one that charged the lowest commission for me was Budget - www.budgetinsurance.com
Also look at Tesco and Direct Line. If you have any special needs, e.g., a young driver, Adrian Flux has an excellent reputation.

Oh and www.elephant.co.uk seems to use its own method of calculating premiums and seems quite good for high risk and younger drivers.

I don't know if this is of use to you - but I have *never* been able to beat my renewal from Direct Line...
|
Me neither, Diesel. Always by a few hundred too...
|
Try Churchill. They did beat Direct Line in my case.
You can get online quotes at www.churchill.co.uk

AXA have beaten everyone by at least 200 quid for me..
|
Egg will beat any quote by a pound and promise not to charge any more if you stay with them for the second year. Or at least they did a couple of months ago.

Give Norwich Union Direct a go, they've been excellent for me for the last three years. I always shop around and they always come in at the lowest. Excellent service too, so far.
They say trouble comes in threes.
One write off (paid up in 10 days), extensive legal work required for injuries sustained in the accident backed by an excellent lawyer (do those two words really go together?).
To my embarassment, backed into a neighbours car only gently(thanks to a on-coming, non-attentive transit van) and thanks to their policy of two claims in three years rule, didn't affect the premium.
Recently, I had to get a tow back home on Easter Sunday, breakdown truck was there in 45 minutes.

I've been with AXA for years, I shop around every year and they're always the cheapest.
A friend swears by www.tesco.com and I must admit they come very close to AXA's price for me and my car, well worth a try.

I find this quite strange. All the companies quoted here so far gave me far higher quotes than the one I've been using for the last 2 years - KwikFit Insurance! I know location, driver, car type etc come into the equation, but the likes of AXA, Direct Line and the rest are always way above what I end up paying.
