Hi all,
Last night my car was broken in to, I suspect due to leaving the window slightly down although am not 100%. A number of minor items were stolen (bluetooth remote for satnav, spare change etc.). I have reported to the police.
Most worrying is that my car handbook was stolen, which includes the service history in the back, and my locking wheel nuts. I was wondering what the possible problems of this will be and how I can mitigate them?
a) How easy would it be for them to get a key from my car from Renault, using the handbook as proof of ownership (as it contains PIN/VIN number, etc.). I reported it to a local Renault dealer, who said they would spread the word to local dealers, but is there any way to notify Renault further up the chain?
b) The dealer also said that the manual contains the locking wheel nut specifications, so they could potentially come back for my tyres. As these were also stolen they actually have them already. While the crime does seem somewhat opportunistic is there anything I can do about this?
c) Could they clone my car? How could I stop this, e.g. could I report to DVLA?
d) Are there any other things I should be worried about
This is my first car and so I apologise if any of these questions are stupid.
Thanks!
