Land Rover Freelander 2 - Kwik Fit Engine Diagnosis - spannerman

Hello, I hope this is the right section for my query. My daughter had the engine fault light come on ( orange I believe) and a message about using restricted power. She took it to Kwik Fit for £35 engine diagnosis and they told her it was the EGR valve. She came away £36 the poorer with a receipt saying code cleared . They told her the part was £600 (land Rover dealer quoted £228+vat) and recommended she took it somewhere else ! I would have expected some sort of print out, so my question is , has anyone here had any experience of this 'service' She did phone customer service and they had no idea. I don't think KF have done anything wrong in the diagnosis. price is silly though.. plucked out of thin air.. didn'y want the job?

If you live anywhere near Broad Lane Land Rovers in Wiltshire, they’re brilliant. Can recommend them from first hand experience.

This is taken from a post on their FB page, “If there is ever a good way to finish a week.. it is receiving feedback like this:

"Dear Fiona
It is hard to overstate how impressed and grateful I am for the service I received this morning. Having phoned you just last night I arrived this morning expecting, at best, Mark to have a drive in my defender, make a provisional diagnosis of the squeak and book an appointment to make further investigations and repairs. What I didn’t tell any of you was that I had already taken the vehicle to another garage specialising in Land Rovers and they, following driving and looking underneath had booked it in proposing to take the front right wheel assembly apart to try and sort the problem.
So when Mark the magician drives it, has a look, says it’s a drive shaft UJ and sorts it there and then in half an hour for 45 quid I am more than impressed and grateful. Down side for all you guys is that no one else other than Broad Lane is touching my Defender in the future. Thanks also to Will and Dan for the chat and the coffee.

More significant than this article are the comments underneath. It beggars belief this outfit is still in business. As one of them almost said, if my car broke down outside KwikFit, I'd push it to another garage.
