All this stuff about Volvo promoting that 'no-one in the UK has ever been killed in an XC90' is just their attempt to cover off the publicity around Uber using an XC90 during their autonomous vehicle trials in America and killing the cyclist.
I'm confident in your mantras on most things, but I'm not comfortable with you supporting Volvo in this particular PR message.

I think "...killed IN an XC90" is the important part of the claim. Volvo can hardly be held responsiible for how, or by what they are driven, and the damage they do to those outside the car, can they?

The statistic is meaningless unless they state how many XC90s are on UK roads and ideally the mileage covered. The best selling cars might have more fatalities overall, but less per mile.

Regarding : On a wing and a prayer, call me cynical, but it sounds like someone damaged the car while it was at the dealers and had it repaired 'cash in hand' somewhere to cover the fact they had damaged company property?

Obviously, the dealers and JLR would have no record of the damage and are contesting the claims on that basis.

"But there nothing to stop you retrofitting a set of 17-inch wheels "

Presumably if non-type-approved you have to tell your insurer and they can then be awkward?
