Two years with the Dacia Logan - johnnyrev
The Logan has gone in for its second service today so I thought I would post a quick update about my two years with my cheap motor! I’ve only done 8000 miles so it hasn’t had to work very hard, but during those miles it has been faultless.

After 2 years my Doblo was already showing its age with loose trim and niggling faults, but nothing like this in the Logan. The trim looks and feels cheap in places but is proving to be robust and is showing no sign of wear.

The little 0.9l engine is great, if a little laggy, but as long as the revs are kept up its really good. Nice long gearing is good on the motorway too.

And there’s not much else to say! It’s been an uneventful 2 years with a really good car. Why aren’t there more around?

I see quite a few Dacias. However cars are now sold on a cost per month, not price.

If a buyer can afford £300 a month they will rent the car for three years, rather than pay a similar amount to own it at the end of the term.

Good luck with the engine - our 0.9t smart has been with the dealer for 6 weeks as there are no parts available - its done 17,000 miles. We are not alone in experiencing a failure and a wait for parts - at least ours did 17,000, just reading of one which has done just 8,000 miles and suffered the same fate - both cars are just two years old.

I like the logan, it is an honest little car with absolutely no pretensions about it. It isn't for posing, it isn't for impressing your neighbours, it's just a car!.

I am quite happy with my venga, but the Logan or stepway would be on my radar.

We have a few Logan diesel taxis here in Colchester, and a Stepway taxi too.

I have seen many many Dacia taxis all over europe. (Lodgy's too!)

Why aren’t there more around?

All kinds of reasons I guess...but I'm sure that image (what will the neighbours think.?) plus badge snobbery, play their part.

Depends what you want from a car...and it's good to hear that you are more than satisfied with your choice.

I remember well (many years ago now) when Skoda brought out their "new" car..might have been the Octavia but I'm not sure.

They placed it in some sort of hall/showroom and removed any reference to Skoda..then invited a few dozen peeps off the street to give their opinions on this "new" car...pretty much all were impressed and when asked if they would consider buying such a car they all said Yes.

They were then told it was a Skoda...and they all disappeared like a f@rt in a hurricane.

Who'd have thought eh.?

Funny how you mention skoda, I think the logan might be the spiritual successor to the felicia estate.

Loads of them around my area, very popular with the self employed in particular with many being used as a more family friendly works van. I really like the simple nature of the design but I’m wary of that 900cc turbo motor. It’s not had a chance to prove itself yet unlike the robust (of looked after) 1.2 16v and 1.5 DCi.

Glad you are happy with the Logan.

2 years ago I went to Renault / Dacia to have a look and test drive of a logan. They didnt have one in but I did try the Sandero and found the drivers seat wouldnt go back far enough.

I was about to give up when the salesman said why not try the Duster.

so I did and was more than impressed (seat goes back further).

Long story short, Ive owned my Duster 1.5Dci Laurette trim for two years now and nothing has gone wrong.

I think Dacia are on to something with their cars.

Took the Dusty in for it's second service last week at Renault and there were four other Dusters in for service as well so definatley a few around in Cambridge

Long story short, Ive owned my Duster 1.5Dci Laurette trim for two years now and nothing has gone wrong.

Interesting.... how do you find it? I am considering a 4WD one as next car. I'm not bothered about the 'lack' of hi-tech equipment, I never use it anyway - there is some talk of wind noise, which might bother me as I mostly do 50/60mph country road commute. Otherwise I can see few drawbacks; on decent tyres it should be able to cope with 8-10" of snow without too much drama (of which we have had 3 goes at this winter, and I expect it to get worse as we go through the solar minimum in a couple of years!).

RichadW, its been a great car.

A little noise at 70mph but quiet enough to have a conversation without raised voices.

At 80mph it starts to feel pushed and the fuel economy starts to suffer. The noise picks up from the mirrors.

At 60mph there is virtually no noise at all.

I drove an earlier (non revised) model for a test drive that had different roof bars and there was a howling sound above 50mph, so most of the car reviews state the car is noisy (so try to find more recent reviews). the revised model is quieter.

I have the 2 wheel drive version, the 4x4 has a slightly lower geared differential so your gears will need to be changed a bit earlier compared to the 2 wheel drive model.

Real world economy is around 48 mpg (measured and calculated not reading from the on board trip computer - yes it has one in laurette trim).

I opted for the touch screen media nav at £300 and really like it. goes quite loud too.

As for coping with the snow, absolutley no problems on it's standard tyres.

Living out in the sticks with a good foot of snow drifts across the roads (when we had snow), it coped really well.

Great seating position can be found and the high up car with 8 inches of clearance works a treat. pot holes are only felt as a slight wobble inside the car. speed bumps are a giggle. only have to slow down a little for them. The downside of the nice soft suspention is that the handling isn't great. not terrible at all but not great but then who is going to throw a Duster around like it's on a race track ?

Thanks, useful info! If I did it I would probably try and get a E6 diesel to future proof it it against any imposition of LEZ - there's a Scottish Government consulation out for LEZ for many towns - including mine - as soon as 2023!

It would, however, require a shift away from my (almost) lifetime association with PSA, and that may be a step too far! It is French under the bonnet though...

There are actually a lot of french parts on the car (that could be a good or a bad thing depending upon point of view).

It's essentally a Renault megane floor pan jacked up (so I am told) with Renault switch gear.

As for the LEZ zones, would the 1.2l Turbo work better for you ?

The 1.5Dci and the 1.2L turbo are the best Dusters to go for.

I don't think Dacia sell the old Nissan engined 1.6l petrol anymore.
