Bus was very well driven. A driver that knows what they are doing and was able to respond to a situation with out panicing.

Very well done.

It was a woman bus driver.

A good driver can pull off a manoeuvre like that. A really good driver would perhaps have been going a bit steadier and avoided having to.

Nevertheless it was well handled - if anyone saw the interviews, she had to come off the brakes because the back was trying to overtake the front - perhaps not surprising with the on-off brakes that most buses seem to have. I'm sure there are a few who would have stayed on the brakes and lost it completely.

It was a good bit of driving but I believe she was going too fast.

Also, she was very lucky that the bus behaved as it did. Had it slid in the opposite direction the result could have been quite different.

Brilliant bus driving - Mr Carrot Cake

It was always likely to go that way due to the camber of the road.

There's a fine line between having enough momentum and going too fast! Have now looked at the clip several times I don't think the bus was going too fast.

I would save my criticism for the car driver, who turned their vehicle sideways in front of the bus.

Another point worth mentioning is that dash cams are usually wide angled, which can give a distorted view of apparent speed.

The car driver made a complete a*** of it. On a staight bit of road too. They must have slowed too much and then started squirming for grip.

I think I heard it said the car driver was trying to turn around. Not the best place to try a three point turn, especially with an oncoming bus. Yes, the car driver did make a complete a*** of it!

Wonder if the car driver is aware of the incident, or if they're still totally oblivious to the whole thing including the bus!

I expect their still trying to remove the smell of poo from their car seat.

It does appear to have been going quite fast. Could it have stopped within the distance it could see to be clear? Based on what she was saying, she seems to have braked very late. 'She just taped the brake' and the back end started to go. It could be that she was too aggressive with the brakes but the back end didn't seem to come out until long after the vehicle was in sight.

9 times out of 10 there would have been fatalities. Very lucky IMO!

Lady did well. Kept her head while many others would’ve panicked and jumped on the brakes. Well done, she’s certainly in the right job.

It was a good piece of driving and she is to be commended.

this is like the new driving test manoeuvre, pull up on the right. when its safe to do so

It turned out well, but there was an element of luck.

The back end of the bus might well have continued to overtake the front in slightly different road conditions so yes, I agree that she was going too fast. I remember my 360 degree rotation on wet cobblestones in a fire engine, and the sense of utter powerlessness that I felt whilst it was happening. She was perhaps lucky that the vehicle retained sufficient grip to allow her to maintain some control.

Nevertheless (and here's hoping this don't sound patronising) some good publicity for women drivers.

She's obviously had some skidpan training the way she instinctively steered into the slide, the back end gripped and she then steered around the car.

It's a pity there are no facilities for all drivers to get an hour or two on a skidpan, I had the advantage of driving old rear wheel drive bangers around a muddy field before I ever went on the road with a car, so sliding a car about and knowing what to do is second nature even after all these years!

It could be either luck or she knew what she was doing. She brakes, the back slides, she comes off the brakes and straightens up to get past the stricken car (which would be correct practice to correct a slide).

We'll never know without asking her. Either way, she's got that extra bit of experience under her belt :-)

You can't really tell from the clip whether the bus driver was going too fast or not. But it looks as if she'd just come up a hill, so in these conditions she'd have had to keep the momentum up. A double-decker coming to a halt and sliding back down the hill doesn't bear thinking about.

I agree with the majority - a great prece of driving, managing to miss not only the car that had stopped but also the person with the dashcam.

Brilliant bus driving - Bromptonaut

On way to work on Wednesday I met the hourly bus to Daventry on a bit of road where parked cars meant there was room for only one of us. Cars were parked in a way which meant it was arguable (though not conclusive) that obstruction was on my side.

Bus pressed on at speed and with (presumed) conviction that he had right of way. Driver was probably trained to be assertive in such situations. No harm on a dry road but on slush that day he/she relied too much on me being on grip and in control.

The technical data was downloaded at it proved she was no more than 20mph. But she works for one of the best bus companies in the UK and it has a first class training school. To be honest, her driving came as no surprise - it's what we expect and exoerince from our local company.

Nice to know she was not going at excessive speed, it’s hard to tell from a video. Nice driving.

She was driving too fast.

She didn't start slowing down early enough.

She didn't slow down sufficiently.

Great piece of driving, IMO. Reminds me of watching Finnish bus drivers in their wintry conditions.
