Which is why I got rid of my diesel last year.

Low wind speed cities in big land masses have a problem with pollution. UK cities, with almost twice such average wind speeds blows the pollution away more easily. Even so, roll on EVs for cities.

I`m not so sure thats true, winds tend to react differently to different buildings and make the pollution build up in certain places, you only have to look at dirt build up in corners and places where the wind turns twister (like a vacuum cleaner ) to see where the diesel dirt is going

even on a lot of windows and walls get black dirt build up which must be caused by diesel particulate build up. also buildings around major A roads and Motorways suffer it as well

there are still a lot of vans and old diesels around that spew black smoke out!

Well there have been articles recently claiming older diesels can actually be less polluting than newer ones. And also that turbo petrol cars can be more polluting.

The court decision has now been put back to the 27th.

BMW and VW bought the votes of the european union to go easy and keep delaying emission legislation, but they forgot about the juristrictions closure to home.

this is why when I changed car last year I purchased a petrol car - even though I drive 20k miles pa and logic would dictake diesel political uncertainty over-rode logical decision making ...

I briefly considered a diesel during my recent car search.

However, bad publicity of the kind which accompanied the emission figures scandal can prove to be a potent influence upon the decision making processes of those who have few alternative sources of knowledge to guide them, and in the end it seemed too much of a risky endeavour.

I think it was more a case of most people ignored any warnings about diesels, any emmisions warnings were ignored because it suited the wallet most of the time, imo its all too little too late as with all things

It seems another report says household chemicals are equal to or worse than particulates inhalation due to the chemicals being inhaled in an enclosed space, so we will wait and see what happens about that. If you want proof just google household chemicals and particulates.

probably swept under the carpet untill the green brigade get their teeth into it?

The Germans are very good at protecing their industry, and their car industry, that is one reason why they are so keen on the EURO as they effectively sell outside the Euro at a discount.

Watch the courts come up with a fudge that will not affect the German car makers too badly.

Look a bit further than diesels and you will find the danger of burning garden compost.
My late wife and both our neighbours died , I believe , as a result of breathing smoke from bonfires smouldering from the allotment s which adjoin our properties.

Unlike diesel fumes the Environment Health Department of our local council are powerless to restrict burning during the winter months.

Again it is the particulates of wood burning that cause the problem, and can be far more dangerous than cigarette smoking.
