Ring your insurance company and see ifall these goodies you have fitted to a standard 1.8 up the premium more than the benefit they give you. Regards Peter

Those carbs will over fuel your engine. If you port the head, fit a sports cam (not a gti cam), and stick the carb on tiny jets it might be ok. Better to go and buy an old Jetta/Golf 16v and stick them on that with a ported head and cam. You could stick them on as standard, but you would only get a few more bhp, say 5 (and thats on a 16v), and huge fuel consumption. I deffinately do not think it is worth it unless you seriously modify the rest of the engine.

Plus the fuel consumption would be an absolute joke! I had an Alfa Arna 1.5Ti with twin downdraft Dellortos, running a 36 choke I think - they were standard fitment - best it would do was around 20mpg!!! They'd be great on a Vauxhall XE engine though...

Thanks for the feed back guys I appreciate it.
The car is winding up to be a work in progress project type of thing so I will be carrying out most of the mods but in time... I just couldn't pass up buying the carbs. I also own a Mk3 GTI 16v which I know would be sweet fitting the carbs to (inlet on the better side of the engine block) but I like the motor as is and am not convinced about converting fuel injection to carb ie more hassle than its worth.
So I think I'll stick with tinkering on the mk2. Does anyone know if the exisiting fuel system can cope with twin carbs?

Should do-even the old Ford mechanical pump could cope with 130/140hp.
