VW Golf Plus (2006) mk5 2.0 fsi - VW Golf (2006) automatic gearbox kicks at R & D - Jevgenijs kaupuzs

Hello,

Out of the blue, my automatic gearbox, whenever i shift while stationary into R (rear) or D (drive) mode, would as if kick itself, so it can be felt throughout the car. At the same time ESP turned off and won't come on again. Any ideas, what might be the root of this problem?

When I bought it 4 years ago, car had major issues with the gearbox, so dealer had to change the whole thing. Since then it was working without any issues. Would appreciate to hear any ideas.

I guess this has the Dsg type gearbox.Initial "kick" on start up or first gear selection could be a problem with one of the clutches.

Thanks for the advice. I guess that makes sense.
Do you know if fixing such a problem is an expensive operation (its an automatic gearbox, cannot imagine it be cheap)?

Also how is ESP related to it? Why did it suddenly stop working?

Hi

Your transmission is not a DSG, it is an Aisin 09G which is a conventional torque convertor gearbox. They are generally very reliable.

I can't figure out a link between the auto transmission and the ESP system but can you check if your ABS is working normally; try an emergency stop on a wet or muddy road.

The ABS and ESP systems share the same braking system hydraulic pressure control system and this is more important (safety related) than transmission jerks.

Sorry I can't offer more.

Joe.
