Astra 1.4 R reg. Book in glove box for rad/cass says unit should be Phillips C200/201. Unit in car is Grundig CAR200. Instructions for resetting code appear to work with the Grundig unit but it will not accept, comes back as "Safe" every time.
Little red card says C200/201.
Has anyone seen this before please?
Thanks Pete.

Don't enter the wrong code more than 8 times in sucession. If you do, all the stereo will be fit for is a door stop. Sounds to me as if someone has changed the original stereo for another and the code supplied is for the other one. You could try removing it from the dash and see if some dimwit has written the code on the casing. Failing that, Vauxhall will supply you with the code for a small fee.

Thanks Dave. I am aware of the number of tries before the unit blocks which is why, after the second attempt, I stopped trying.
You may well be correct, that the unit has been swapped at some time, the question is, that if it is not an original Vaux fit, will the Vaux dealer have record of any code?
Rgds, Pete.

if it is not an original Vaux fit....
Vauxhall fitted either the Grundig CAR range, or the Philips range. For all intense purposes, they are the exactly the same stereo\'s.
will the Vaux dealer have record of any code?
Providing the serial No. is still on the radio, I would imagine they can search their database for the code.

Thanks again Dave, now I am getting somewhere.

Had problems With SAFE coming up on my Vectra after a flat battery, found when checking that electric windows only operated when button held down ie not single touch, the trip mileage had zeroed but not the total mileage, and the date was given as 1996 the year of manufacture not 2003 when this occured. My local Vaulhall dealer were completely unworried when I phoned them and said it needs reprograming, this was done without charge and all is now normaL

To reprogram, close windows, then hold down the button for 5 seconds.
the trip mileage had zeroed but not the total mileage...
It will do that. That is normal.
and the date was given as 1996 the year of manufacture not 2003 when this occured...
Again, that is normal. Providing the original head unit is in place and working, the date/time will automatically set itself from the Radio\'s RDS signal after a couple of minutes of the radio being switched on.

Does anyone out there have a Vauxhall with a Grundig CAR200 radio/cass please ? If so, could you please describe your CODE card, it size, its colour and if it states specifically CAR200 on it. Obviously, I am not asking for your code, I just need to confirm that the card I have here is the correct one for the unit that I have here.
Thank you, petel@clara.co.uk

Have you the 'car pass' or just the radio pass? For current cars there just seems to be a 'car pass' supplied, but I recall my previous Vx cars have had both, the radio pass being red and credit card sized. It was a bit useless as the radio pass information simply repeated the car pass information for the radio. The car pass includes the radio serial number, so you can quickly check if you've the original radio. If it isn't, you'll have to contact Vx to see if they can assist, or one of the radio decoders advertising in Autotrader etc.
The 'Car Pass' is a credit card sized card, provided with every new car. It contains: VIN, Security code(code for accessing ECU to programme new keys etc), Engine type and number, key number, radio type and security code (Mine is a CAR 400, shown as '400'), radio serial number. If you don't have this the Vx dealer can supply a replacement for about £6. It's a very useful set of information.

Thanks John. At this time I have only a radio card, red and credit card size as you confirm, which states C200/201 (the Phillips set) some other number and a four digit code number.
I am not familiar with Vauxhauls so was not aware of any other card.
Dynamic Dave was able to confirm that both Phillips and Grundig units are found on these cars. The elderly lady owner had an M reg Astra before this one and I am assuming that it had a Phillips unit for which this is the code card. If she is unable to find any other cards, I will just have to pull the unit, note the serial number and take a trip to the local Vaux dealership.
Thanks to yourself and Dave for your kind assistance.
Rgds, Pete.

It cost me a tenner for the Vx dealer to get this info, and took a couple of days.

If the previous owner can't find the car pass, then the Vx dealer can get one - it only takes a couple of days. It's worth getting the 'Car Pass' as it is necessary for other things such as new keys. If this has a different radio code to the red card, then the red card you have is almost certainly for the wrong radio. Don't pull the radio yet - it would be worth trying the number from the car pass in the radio. Otherwise, extract the radio, get the serial number and see if Vx can help based on that.

When I requested mine, the Vx service guy actually went to my car and pulled the radio just to make sure they were looking at the right details.

Pete, I've just found a photocopy of my Radio Pass that I had for my old 1993 Cavalier. As John S has already mentioned, it's credit card sized. It states the actual radio fitted, (a Philips R/C 681 in my case), also the Car make/model and registration number. From memory the card was coloured Red. HTH, DD.

My thanks to you all for your kind assistance. I will let you know when I get the matter sorted.
