Succinctly put DVD. From local news about recent cases I would put money on a prison sentance. A valid point already made is: will he learn from the punishment? Who knows? But in all reality he should not be allowed to drive freely again for a very long time, if at all. However, if he is a miscreant he will of course ignore the law. Pity. My sympathies are with people like SLO76 who have actually suffered at the hands of people like this.

The man has a serious problem, as Bromp mentions when sober he might be a decent stick, but some people really shouldn't drink at all because once they've had one drink they will not stop guzzling till they've turned from Jekyll into Hyde.

It doesn't take a genius to realise the man is alcoholic, and yes i have some experience of this from a previous life i was glad ended (no not me i barely touch the stuff), but like many alcies does/will not accept what they are.

We've no idea of the OP's relationship with her ex and quite reasonably, she gives us no clues. I suspect though his problems owe more to drink then driving.

If we assume they're just a couple he may be, sober, charming and everything she wants/needs. Not surprising, even if he's a different person pickled, that she allows him a bit of latitude.

Add kids into equation so she's explaining to them why Daddy is in Prison and coping with loss of maintenance and support he offers outsdide and sober it's not really that surprising that even 'serious reflection' doesn't supply answers.

Bromp, you have suggested a probable reason why she is concerned, if this is the case she has my sympathy (kids + divorce is never ideal, I know this only too well).

What I often wonder is why so many ladies make the commitment to have children with someone who has these issues. Maybe it is the belief that given time they can somehow change them into a better person?
