On what grounds would you be pursuing the manufacturer? Surely the contract you formed was with the dealer who sold you the car, and therefore any action would need to be against the dealer. The dealer in turn might have an action against the manufacturer.
Exactly - UK law is quite different to the USA.
Since European car makers never publish an expected life of a component, assemby or complete vehicle (except warranty limitations on short-life items) your only redress is under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 against the seller.
Any compensation would take into account the use you've already had, ie 4+ years and 50,000 miles and certainly would only be an appropriate fraction of the repair cost.
