Peugeot 3008 eHdi semi auto - Subject real mpg - keith40

Three year ago I was convinced by everyone to change my 2.0 ltr auto diesel to a new economical 1.6 auto diesel I still need space so peugeot eHdi came up as a car goes it's ok the gearbox is a total disaster area the egc automated manual is crap! Never again.

But the worst thing about it my Skoda superb always retuned 45 mpg running around town and some motorway and 62 on a run of200 motorway miles. The pug best mpg to date is 40.2 mpg.mostly it's around 35 mpg I got more from a petrol 2.2 2002 Vauxhall omega auto. This car has been a total disaster when it come to economy.if you do any sort of motorway travel you can for get economy the engine is under powered and the car to heavy put 4 people and luggage in her and it drinks diesel like a Scot drinks free whisky quickly and lots of it!

My driving style has not changed I have always driven 2.0 ltr or above vehicle and have always had good economy in fact whilst they changed the best box for the first time I was loaned 3008 full auto 2.0ltr hdi for two weeks and that car returned 43 mpg running around and 56 on a run .

So next month my new car arrive it a Volvo xc60 D5 223 bhp it's in the same co2 area as the Peugeot and I bet it gives me better mpg .

Do not believe all the hype about these green car it all bull

The day they make 500 mile electric car that take 20 to full recharge and cost the as an equivalent fossil fuel vehicle we be my time to go green otherwise it all lies smoke and mirrors we are being sold a lie and the government and the fuel companies are making a packet out of use by charge hi fuel prices why is shell nitro+ only 55p a literal in Morroco? We are being ripped off again.wjy are american paying £2.50 to £3 a gallon for fuel. It's got to stop fuel need to come down dramatically if you want to simulate our economy sod all you do gooders in London you do without car but the rest of the nation does not have a subsidised integrated public transport system we need our cars a good roads.

Do you know how many recharge point for car the have in my town zero!

Interesting to hear how badly the EGC automated manual gearbox affects economy. It's a horrid thing with jerky gear changes. You got off lightly though, the 1.6 PSA HDI is a notorious engine for problems particularly turbo failure, often at alarmingly low mileages. You're best rid of it and the big D5 Volvo is a lovely big thing with an engine capable of running well beyond 250k with care.

The turbo failure on the 1.6 has been narrowed down to a combination of the wrong spec oil being used and too-infrequent oil changes, coupled with the tiny mesh filter in the turbo oil feed pipe never being changed or recommended for change at any period.

Peugeot recommends 20,000 miles between oil changes. It should be 12,000, with the oil feed filter (or even the entire pipe) changed around the same time as the cambelt.

You're correct. Sadly though non-franchise garages don't know about this or simply avoid doing so for cost reasons so the majority of cars that've been serviced outside the dealer network are liable to go wrong. Plus there is the issue of depreciation. The trade are aware of the issues on this engine and value any cars so equipped accordingly in the same way they always priced in likely HGF on K series Rovers and Land Rovers. As a trader I refuse to touch them.

Amazed by this as my Omega auto only ever hit 35 mpg on long runs. Usually it was 25 - 27 mpg dropping to low 20s in cold weather. Pre EcoCarp engine in a Carlton was far better.

I have had a coupe of semi-autos as hire cars. Totslly pointless in my view!
