Help! my little peugeot is leaking brake fluid like crazy! I cannot seem to find where it is leaking from. It doesn't leak when it is stationary, only when I apply pressure to the brake. My handbrake is holding perfectly fine also..

Please Help!

Your handbrake is mechanical so it will be unaffected but the brake fluid will probably be leaking from a corroded pipe or a split rubber hose. Rubber hoses go to each 4 wheels so if it's by the wheels then it's probably that if it's under the car it's probably corroded pipes get someone to put there foot on the brake whilst you look underneath

If it cant be found its possibly a rear wheel cylinder seal gone inside the drum(if it has drums) or master cylinder leak, either way I would advise not using it untill its fixed

Puddling on the ground, or no signs of it at all?

As well as pipes you'll have to get the rear drums off and check the slave cyls, if the leak is bad there will be stains round the back plates of the rear drums if the leak is from a slave cyl.

If no sign of a leak suspect brake master cylinder, you could check up under the bulkhead any fluid leaking out the back of the cylinder will likely end up trickling down under the carpet into the footwell.

Alternatively, this is why mechanics wear overalls and get paid to check over and fix cars, i wouldn't be asking for pointers where the leak would be coming from on an internet forum, that car would be off the road and someone competent having a look at it if i couldn't source the problem...that leak might result in full brake failure when the leaking seal/pipe gives way.

If the fluid is going down with use in the reservoir (you don't say, but I'm assuming) but you cannot find any obvious leak anywhere around the car, then I would suggest the most likely cause is a failed cylinder in one of the rear drum brakes.

If you don't know how to strip and rebuild drum brakes, then DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR ANYWHERE other than to a local garage tomorrow and even then drive very gingerly and use the handbrake to slow as much as possible.

Master cylinder is a possibility, but I'd be checking the drums first.

If you've got a driveway to park it on, why not look for a mobile mechanic in your area. Weather's good and they don't have the overheads of a garage so are likely to be cheaper. Plus you can elliminate the risk of driving it anywhere.

The brake servo can fail on older 306s. Have a look inside and see if its full of brake fluid.
