I've recently bought a 2005 1.8 vvti corolla verso. The car seems to run fine however under throttle there is a noticeable ticking noise which appears to come from the rear left side of the engine (when looking at the bay).

In first gear the tick starts at around 1.5k rpm in second its clearly noticeable at 2.5k. But it also makes the noise when stationary in neutral. idle has a slight crackle to it at regular intervals.

It doesn't appear to do it when cold. At idle when warm it makes a regular very slight rattle noise, only slightly.

When under throttle the engine makes the ticking noise but if you put more revs through, over 2.5k then it seems to stop.
