The large number of people that I see driving round with their foglights on have made me wonder if they have ever read the Highway Code. The Code specifically says that they should only be used under conditions of reduced visibility and this is backed-up by legislation.
Surely people who drink-drive, speed, dive without due care etc are also people who have not read, or taken any notice of the Highway Code?
I suggest that anyone banned from driving, for any length of time, should have to re-take a full driving test (with the Highway Code test) before getting their licence back. For anyone banned for the more serious offences, this test would be a longer one to the Institute of Advanced Motorists standard.
What do you think?

Everyone on the road will come across any number of fog-light abusers every night of the week. Presumably the police do as well, but rarely if ever do anything about it. The sentence that can be imposed is immaterial if the offenders are allowed to carry on regardless.
According to my younger pupils, it is considered "Cool" to be seen with the fogs on.

There are so many things you see continually throughout the day which are either illegal or contra-indicated by the Highway Code. Using magic lights to allow parking in the most stupid places is one that comes to mind. I tend to suspect that harsher punishments and enforcement might cure these problems. (Blimey, I must be getting old when I join the flog 'em and hang 'em brigade.)

I'm told that at one time it was considered by some of the younger generation to be "cool" (?) to be seen with as many lights on simultaneously as it was possible to have. By and large, this era fortunately seems to have passed ~ or have perchance the perpetrators grown up a tad ?

Don't like to be stupid but...what are magic lights Leif??
|
"Magic lights"
Hazards that make your car invisible to traffic wardens?
|
|
'Magic lights' are hazard warning lights. They allow you to park anywhere. So it would seem.
|
Unfortunately with increased parking costs and more and more cars on the roads (making it harder to find somewhere legal to park) the use of \"magic lights\" can only increase unless someone clamps down on it.
I\'ll admit to parking in loading bays in my local town centre for 20 mins regulary with my magic lights on.
I haven\'t been caught yet but if I was I\'d think twice about it.

Chris. A good point. I have to rather sheepishly admit to parking on double yellow liness when going to the chippy in Brixham. It's either that or park 2 miles away. Looks like I'm destined for purgatory then. Gulp.
Wonder if hell is full of speed humps, speed cameras, and traffic wardens aplenty. Hmmm. Traffic wardens definitely belong there anyway. :)
