Ford Focus - Marc
Is the 1.8 Focus a much better drive than the 1.6? I currently drive a 1.6 and agree with HJ's comments about flat performance at motorway speeds.
Re: Ford Focus - Andy
Hi

The 1.8 focus has the 'now old' Mondeo engine.

From the torque curves of the two engines, the 1.8 and 2.0 have a nasty 'dip' in the curve.

For the 1.8 this dip is between approx 2500 to 4000 rpm, with a worst point about 3250 rpm

The dip in torque is such that at 3250 rpm it's no better than the 1.6. Assuming about 70mph is around 3000 rpm in fifth gear, it suggests that the i.8 is no better than the 1.6 at motorway speed.

However, the bottom line is I suppose you'd have to try one!

BTW,

The new 1.8/2.0 Mondeo engines don't have to torque dip any more!

Cheers for that. Probably not worth the extra then, although as you say a test drive is the only way
