Audi A3 Cabriolet - Audi A3 engine failure - AndyA1

I have a 2010 Audi A3 1.8 TFSI that was purchased privately in December.

I did have a local mechanic (clickmechanic) perform a check of the car prior to the purchase and all was good.

After servicing the vehicle (clickmechanic) and a long drive, the engine oil warning light appeared. I did top up the oil and the oil warning light reappeared after 300 miles. After some internet research I discovered the 2 litre engine had a known oil consumption issue which Audi would repair at their cost on a case by case basis.

Audi London advised me they would perform a free oil consumption test, but we agreed this should happen after i return back from my journey to france given the likelyhood of the reapparance of the warning light.

To cut to the chase, my car experienced catastrophic engine problems on a motorway in France. Audi France advised there was no pressure in the cylinders and the engine would require replacing. I'm in no doubt the failure is related to the oil warnings and it was naive of me to drive the car to France.

I'm now left with replacing the engine with a reconditioned one. Given my naievety, is there anything I should be aware of and is there anywhere i can follow this up with Audi to seek any type of compensation?

Thanks

If you knew the car was using lots of oil, then you should have been checking it - a lot. Like every 100-200 miles or so.

The car is 6 years old. In no way can Audi have any legal responsibility. So you are left with asking about a goodwill payment.

Even assuming you get a goodwill contribution, then it would still probably be cheaper for you to get a replacement engine from a write-off, or to get your engine rebuilt by a professional independent.

No cylinder pressure and a high cranking speed is usually caused by a broken cam belt or chain?

Regardless of mileage-Audi recomend a cambelt change every 4 years. I assume you have specific evidence that this was done over and above a service book stamp?

What's that got to do with your 1.8 TFSI?

Also, to have a chance of any goodwill from Audi you'd have to show that you checked the oil each time as soon as the warning light came on. Maybe you did - it's not entirely clear from your post.
