A UK national resident in France decides to buy a used car in the UK from a bonafide dealer.
At the point of sale the vehicle tax is surrendered by the dealer who claims any refund due.
Strictly speaking, the buyer needs to tax the vehicle to drive it legally to the ferry to get it out of the country.
(In the real world you drive to the ferry the same day - the car still shows as taxed for a couple of days)
I and many other expats don't have a UK address.
AFAIK you can't tax a vehicle as a non-resident using a non-UK address.
Is there any way of getting around this legally? Or is it one of those situations that falls down into the cracks in the DVLA's system?
