I have an issue with cold starting on my estima 3ct diesel 93.

This being since the temperature outside dropped before that the vehicle started and ran ok. I now have to sit and press the accelerator pedal,turn the key and start the engine hold the fast tickover till it warms up a little then all is fine. I have naver had to sit in the vehicle with this procedure before so something amiss. I have looked at the pump as I turn the key and noticed there is no movement on the fast idle control. Anyone any ideas please. Regards.

Next cold morning, get in the car, turn the key until the ignition is on ( NOT until the engine cranks), and wait 10 seconds. Then try starting it normally.

It could be the glow plugs starting to fail, it could be a fuel pump starting to fail, it could even be a fuel filter getting clogged up or partially filled with water.

You'd be better asking the question on the TEOC website, their chairman is a specialist in Estima's.

Many thanks all. All obvious faults eliminated. With the throttle held open the car will start no prob but will not tickover smoothly untill engine gets a little warm.then fine. I am trying to get membership confirmation from TEOC but no response and an email to the club estima guru has also failed. Ill keep on trying to sort it.

Managed to find a guy name of Gary at G T Motors who gave me info on the cold start idle control timer which is a device connected to the idle control fixed at the back of the fuel pump and has two coolant pipes connected to it. When cold the devie contracts which pushes the idle lever to a fast idle as the temperature increases the device expands reducing the idle speed. My issue was caused by a blockage in one of the coolant pipes which made the device inoperative. Sorted. Many thanks to all who helped.
