J10 - Nissan Qashqai tailgate handle broken off - chrisjd

The tailgate handle has broken off on my 4 year old QQ J10. Nissan claim that this is a rare occurrence, but a web search shows that this quite a common problem. Anyone else had this problem?

A few people have reported problems like yours.

However, you've got to balance the number of problems with the number of Qashqai's on the roads. The first generation Qashqai there were roughly 300,000 registered for the UK. The factory builds several hundred (of the new J11) every single day (for export and UK markets), and has built in excess of 2 million Qashqai's.

So in the context of the number out there, the number of reported failures is probably entirely within 'acceptable levels'. Yes, every fault on YOUR car is unacceptable to you.

But if one person in 5,000 or 10,000 has a fault like that, and the fault takes several years to happen, then it's not really a fault.

I can't agree. Makers found out decades ago how to make handles (for almost any purpose) which don't break off in normal use. Some designer has had a bright idea to save money or time, or cut corners, without thinking it through or running a proper test.

It was actually well designed by the manufacturer, just to last long enough to break outside the 3 year warranty! Typical of things built today, Built to just outlast the warranty and certainly not built to last.

Strange how when someone mentions a problem like broken handle, you seem to notice them more.

I have seen several like it today..

One reason to buy the brands that give 5 or 7 year warranties.
