Hello my learned friends. This one has me puzzled and needs fixing. I have had the car for 6 years daily use and a new problem has arisen. The car went off the road for the summer while I was lucky enough to enjoy a soft top. The car came out of the garage a couple of weeks ago for its M.O.T. which it passed with flying colours. What is happening now is that there is a loud hum(vibration) between 2200rpm and 2500 rpm. Outside of these engine speeds all is well. The noise doesn't slowly rise and fall it just comes on and off as if a switch is being operated. Power and economy seem fine. Thank you in anticipation. Best Regards.

Check the airbox intake snorkel hasn't come loose - those can make surprisingly loud humming / vibrating noises at specific rpm.

Just had a look and all ductwork seems correct. Any more ideas chaps? Regards.

The plastic engine cover flapping around, maybe?

Thanks Craig. It is firmly in place. If I drive at 2150 rpm it is ok. Increase speed a little and as I said earlier it starts at exactly 2200 revs then stops at 2500 revs in any gear. Regards,

After a few weeks this problem went away and all was well. The car was parked up for the summer and came back on the road on the first of this month. Guess what? The problem has come back-exactly the same symptoms! I am totally stumped with this one. Park the car up for the summer and it drones/hums at certain revs after you put it back on the road. What on earth can it be friends because it is driving me mad!
