Saab 9-5 ttid 2011 - Car sold as FSH, turns out never serviced - saab95

So my tale of woe - picked this car up last summer, 33k miles, looked great, fully stamped service book inc selling dealer, just serviced. Got it home all well for a while but engine problems within a few months and when serviced looking for faults, the oil filer came out looking like a lunar sample and oil was like lumpy treacle. I've posted pics on Facebook and everyone says it's the wiorst they have ever seen. My Saab guy tells me he doubts car had even had an oil change since new.

I had to get twin turbos reconditioned and all new pipes and gaslets etc as well as multiple oil changes. Still get warning lights about oil the odd time.

I have contacted dealer but he is not interested on account of time lapsed and I dont know whether time and effort of getting enginners report and small claims is worth it?

If you mean summer 2014 forget it.

If less than 6 months car still under warranty.

You might care to conact your local trading standards, see if they are interested

A fully stamped service book and no services carried out - more a case of Fraud rather than a minor issue over a late / missed service.

However - who committed the fraud - the original owner, the selling garage?

So your title says that the car has never been serviced. But then it's 'looks like' it's never been serviced, according to 'your Saab guy'. Slightly economical with the truth ...

Unfortunately, 'looks like' doesn't cut it. So it's an engineer's report, or it's hearsay.

It also seems, from what you say, like it was summer 2014 when you bought the car. In which case you've got no comeback against the selling dealer. You say 'last summer', and 'within a few months' and it's had 'multiple oil changes' since then.

I'd suggest that you might have a poor oil sensor. Which would flag up oil warnings. Changing that might be a decent idea. But I'd also have expected 'your Saab guy' to have checked that sort of thing already, if he was as competent as that.

Forgetting when you bought the car have you still got the oil with a professional analysis to use as an exhibit if the case got to court. Would the garage you use stand up as a whitness in court.

Answer no to either (or both) and its a waste of time.

Move on and learn.

The service interval on these IIRC is up to 18000 miles so I doubt it would have had more than one service at 33k.

You really have no way of proving whether it was serviced or not except perhaps contacting the garage whose stamp is in the book (although they're probably either out of business or not interested in Saab stuff).

Really no way of proving either way. Perhaps they used the wrong oil - Saab dealers were somewhat fed-up by 2011/12 and maybe someone in the workshop with a redundency notice in hand didn't give two whatsits and bunged any old rubbish in.

Just to add that even at 33k, even on a car with a DPF, assuming it was filled with fully synthetic low-SAPS from the factory the oil shoudn't look *that* bad even on the original oil.

Rather than looking like treacle, I would expect it to look thin and maybe diluted with diesel a bit.

Yes. Lesson 1 - check the dipstick as well as the service record. Most cars still have one somewhere. Though it's amazing how few miles it takes for a diesel engine's oil to turn black.

Thanks all for your comments. I tend to agree, as I no longer have the offending oil, filter nor did I get a report done at the time, as someone said, learn and move on....

Think I will lob a note to the local trading standards though just in case I'm not alone...
