Mazda6 2.0 Petrol - Valve clearances. - kiss (keep it simple)

I have a 2004 2.0 petrol Mazda6 with 146k on the clock. It's running fine with good economy but I wonder whether it needs the shims changing. My previous cars have had hydraulic tappets. I can't find much info.

Are they noisy, if not they re probably OK.

But whatever you want to do the first thing is to check then and see if they are within tollerence. Again if they are nothing to do. If not the offending ones will need doing. But its not a quick job even if you have the correct tools. You will also need a huge selection of shims.

Its the same engine fitted to Mondeo's and Focus so many independents will have experience and probably the parts.

No there's no tappet noise. I seem to remember in years gone by it was a service job at say, 60k. I guess the metallurgy and lubrication are better these days! I do give it regular oil changes so I guess that helps.
