VW Golf MK6 TSi 1.4 manual - Fierce brakes - wolfburg

We have recently purchased this car and have experienced very aggressive brakes.

I have been used to Mercedes cars which have excellent brakes but the sharpness on the Golf is almost toooooo much.

Is this usual and can anything be done?

Brakes vary from one make to another.

You will soon get used to it.

Overservoing of the brakes seems to be quite normal on modern cars, i'm not keen it either.

I disliked the too light/sharp brakes on SWMBO's C2 VTS, but she preferred them like that.

I found the same problem on a Golf Mk5 FSi 1.6 manual - wouldn't have minded so much except the accelerator was very stiff. The difference in the two pedals was difficult to live with IMO.

VW needed a lesson from Lotus on how to balance the car controls, sounds like they still need it.

Having driven 2* BX and a Xantia with fully powered brakes I thought I was accustomed to vehicles that stand on their noses at a toe's twitch. Use eyes and 'seat of pants' senses to modulate braking at featherlight pressures.

Mrs B's 2013 Berlingo though takes it a stage further. Got the hang of just tickling the pedal but herself still stops it in it's own length.

Upside though is it's still surefooted at max GTW with thecaravan in tow.

Quite Bromp, if ABS wasn't standard these days you could easily find yourself in schtuck.

I had a W reg 1.5d Renault Kangoo van a few years ago. Jam on and you could nearly make the passenger give the dash a Glasgow kiss.
