When I bought my car some 9 years ago now, the temperature gauge worked intermittently. The pcb was found to be damaged!. (Presumeably by a previous owner). Purchased and fitted a cluster from Ebay, everything worked fine, save the odometer!! (keeps stopping).

Would really like to refit correct cluster, as the odometer is getting very annoying to cope with, and this cluster has had a hard life, by the look of things. To this end I Recently had the original cluster repaired and tested (everything worked correctly) by ECU testing ,and refitted to the car. Now I find that the Temp and Fuel gauges work but do not show the correct readings (both to Low). Everything else is fine. Only the temp gauge was faulty when the cluster was originally removed.

Both temp and fuel gauges work fine with the 2nd hand cluster and indeed the temp sensors and stat have been changed, nothing wrong with either the fuel or cooling system. ECU say there may be a connection issue, and with the fuel gauge, it can be adjusted with the short knob by the side, IE fill the tank and turn the knob to adjust the fuel needle. Any thoughts please, while I am waiting for the cluster to be returned?.

Fuel and temp gauge faults on these are very common, and to somebody that knows what they are doing, usually a very simple fix with no parts required. These use a very basic hard printed circuit with very little electronics.Infact the 2 gauges are driven by a voltage regulator similar to what you would find in an 80s Golf. The most common issue is poor connections between the gauges and the pcb.Dismantling the circuit board ,and cleaning the contacts with a small file (where the gauges screw onto the pcb),then re assemble will do the trick.Fortunately all the gauges on the pcb are removeable and can be swapped around.

Thank you for this advice, I will let my technician know when we come to have another go with this.
