Segments of hour charged for labour - Trilogy

On collecting my Mercedes from the specialist who services I was pleasantly surprised to find he had charged me 0.83 of an hour for part of the job. I expect most garages would have rounded this up. This guy runs probably the best garage I have ever been to. Service is always seond to none.

Good news - perhaps you could name the garage. Are they in our Good Garages Guide?

Excellent.

Jaguar dealers and many others only deal in half hour multiples, but NOTHING takes less than an hour....

Might this be the standard schedule time for the job in question - 50 mins?

Avant, it is Alex Crow, Mercedes Specialist, Stowmarket, Suffolk.

Andrew-T, this latest bill also has a 0.75 hour charge. Two different tasks the same visit.

Sounds like manufacturer job times to me!

I've also used Alex Crow for a small oil leak on my SLK. Mercedes Dealer estimated 'about an hour but could be less' plus the part.

Alex did it for £32 inclusive, charging 20 minutes for Labour.

Nice to see some dealers doing so, and to me is a very good way of getting (via word of mouth) and keeping custom. An example of this for me was quite a few years ago when I owned a Nissan Micra - I had an issue whereby a stone chip had flown up into the car's engine bay and broken the water pump belt.

The RAC had checked it out (it was severely overheating on the way home from work on a hot July day) generally, topped up the water and relaced the belt (all that [an hour's labour] for £7.99 for the part!), which would've been another £75 - £100 if I'd had it done at my local dealer, who also wanted to charge me £30 extra (about year 2000) for checking the anti-freeze/coolant level in the radiator. The £30 doesn't sound a lot, but this was 15 years ago, and another nearby dealer (only a couple of miles further in the other direction) said they'd do it for free - which they did and found everything was ok (it took 5-10 mins to do).
