Hitting home hard. - Young people "cruising" - oldroverboy.

I suppose that we all think it will never happens to us, but when it does it can be a nasty surprise..

Some friends teenage son went out one evening recently to a "memorial cruise"with a similiar aged friend, and was involved in an accident late at night on a bendy road. Is critically ill now, driver escaped with minor injuries. Other car on the way home not involved but not close enough to see what happened. Not young "idiots" but normal teenagers..

Wondering what a memorial cruise is

A foolish misnomer. (cruise = 'travel smoothly at a moderate or economical speed' -OED).

Looks as though statistically more dangerous than F1 racing.

It's well known that there's a problem of over confidence with some young inexperienced drivers, mostly male - but there's another factor. This youthful over confidence is particularly prevalent if the young driver is also a performance car enthusiast. Such people have a tendency to live in a dangerous 'crossover' world where the distinction between motor sport and motoring on public roads is blurred.
