vw sharen 1.9tdi 2001 - brake pedal - sparky100

Hi, just put new front pads on sharen and bled all 4-wheels. Pedal is firm when engine is off. But soon as the engine is started the pedal slowly goes down to the floor. If you pump it, it comes up but again slowly goes down again. Crimped flexable hoses when fitting pads and undone brake nipples to wind back pistons as haynes manual tells you. Does anybody have any ideas. Thanks. Sparky100.

If you are using the correct piston wind back tool,I can't see any reason to undo the bleed nipples when changing pads..Looks like there is still air in the system.Carry out a full bleed ,starting with the rear wheels first.

Hi, according to haynes manual the flexi hoses should be clamped and bleed valves open to stop any dirt or old fluid affecting abs system which can cause all sorts of problems.

Just wondering if it could be master cylinder playing up.

Quite so. Never force old fluid backwards through an ABS system by pushing in the pistons.
