That's a bit extreme, as we haven't been told the age or condition of the car. But it would be reasonable to ask a seller to spend £50-ish to secure a sale. If he won't, you may draw your own conclusions. On the other hand, a car with 6 months remaining is usually considered a reasonable proposition.
I once knew someone who had his Renault 5 tested every 6 months for peace of mind. Not sure whether he mistrusted the car or the testers.
