Nissan micra k12 2003 1.0E model

I seen some previous posts about this problem on this and other sites but i just dont know what is my best option.

I suddunly developed this fault one day where the hazzards came on, and i cant turn them off!

I took my car to a local garage and they said its not the switch, not a short circuit or fuse/relay but a faulty bcm?

In the mean time, they dislodged the relay and so at the moment i can drive the car but without of course any indicators so luckily i dont drive far as i work and live in same town.

I have no other problems with the car, everything else works(?!), and a cost of a new bcm is £350 plus vat plus fitting!!

Surely, can this be an issue or can the bcm (If it is the problem) be re-wired or by-passes to another area of the car?

The car cost me £600 so possibly spending £500 on repairs is out of the question.

Thanks guys any advice would be appreciated.

The complexity of modern cars however cheap or expensive they are, means that a lot of the electrical functions are controlled by modules.Great from the makers pont of view as it reduces wiring and additional relays. However when it goes wrong it usually means an expensive repair .You may find some of the car electronics firms can repair these.S/hand could be a problem as the bcm is coded to the car.Re-wiring or by-pass the bcm is not an option ,far too complicated.

I found someone on the internet that could "Clone" my bcm (?) for £80, with free postage, trouble is my car will be out of action for a week for the turn around.

I think in the future i will buy the older type of carsa as they seem better and cheaper if they go wrong.

I think modern cars are designed to go wrong, more money for the goverment and the car manufactures etc.

Thanks for reply tho.

Ed and the o.p. what sensitive couple of souls you must be,

I own seven cars manufactured from from 1931 to 2004 and put up with all sorts of jibes when out and about such as in the case of my Austin Seven being called a chicken chaser, but I just think of the old saying "water of a ducks back" and I just laugh it off.

If anyone's feelings have been hurt please accept my most humble apologies and I will refrain from any further such comments.

Well problem resolved local electrical engineer achieved this with much fiddling about ,but with a reduction in power to the feed cable - new circuit as follows - 12v feed - 10a fuse - fixed value resistor - then connected into wire from hazard warning light switch to terminal 26 on bcm.

I hope this will help others on this site as i wasnt getting much back or helpful advice anyway.

Thanks

What was the value of the resistor? What power rating did it have?

Q.I will go back and check with the auto-electrician and pass on the info in next day or so.

Was the problem a lack of supply voltage to the switch from the BCM? I assume the resistor was used to give a 5volt feed.

I imagine the switch is actually faulty. It probably supplies a constant feed back to the BCM and became faulty causing the lights to stay on. I.e. it probably is normally closed and thay fooled the garages unplug-and-see style of diagnosis.

Either that or a chaffed wire somewhere.
