outdoor decking - concrete

My decking project is coming along nicely. The supports are all levelled and the joist frame in place. Just waiting for delivery of the stainless steel screws to commence fixing the decking boards. My only reservation about decking is that it can become very slippery, especially in the cooler damper weather. However I am assured by several people that an annual application of non-slip coating is very effective against this. The problem is I just don't know. We have never had decking previously so have no experience. Would prefer experienced opinion than product claims.

Any useful advice gladly received. Cheers Concrete

outdoor decking - RobJP

We've always found that decking does seem a bit 'slimy' underfoot after winter - though that could be partly down to our location on the north said of a hill where the house and area doesn't see the sun at all for 3 months.

However, a good going over with a pressure washer is certainly very good at lifting said layer and making the surface ready for a coat of stain. We use Ronseal (though other brands are certainly available).

Hope that's of help !

Thanks Rob, went onto the Ronseal website and there is some advice and products available, including non-slip coatings. Lots of others came up too, including a German coating that received excellent reviews for being non-slip. I am going to a local supplier next week to look at some and see what I think. Will keep you posted.
