The new shape Hyundai I10 - daveyK_UK

It's widely considered the best city car available and has been around now for 12 months. Does anyone have any ownership experience of the new I10?

Elder daughter has just got one, replacing a three-year-old i10. Before that she had a series of Toyota Yarises - all excellent but the i10 is much cheaper to buy.

She isn't very car-minded and doesn't seee the i10 as very different from the Yaris: both have been reliable, and on my advice she's always had the bigger engine. The 1.0 in the i10 would be fine if you only drive around town, but the 1.2 is worth it for longer trips. Hers is the mid-range SE which has the kit that most people need but not the stuff they don't.

She's very happy with the new one so far. Our only criticism is of the very boring choice of colours.

My secretary has one. No problems at all in over 12 months. Tyre pressure monitoring works well as she kerbed a wheel avoiding a dog and it went off despite only a small reduction in pressure.

Personally i find the driving position and that of the the similar Kia Picanto to be a bit odd; for me the legs are a little jackknifed upwards but maybe a higher model with seat height adjustment would solve it. otherwise a perfectly acceptable small car.

We've had a 1-year-old one for 3 weeks, replacing a 5-year-old i10. The new one is the 1.2 SE and it is absolutey brilliant so far. It has had a couple of 200-mile motorway trips plus plenty of more local stuff and my impressions are:

  • It seems very solidly built.
  • Well-equipped, of course.
  • The interior is a nice place to spend time; it has a good-quality feel.
  • Seats are comfortable and supportive.
  • It's pleasantly quiet inside, even on the motorway.
  • More than adequate power and torque. It's never going to be a hot hatch but is perfectly capable of keeping up in normal use!
  • Suspension is much improved over the earlier model. It feels solidly 'planted' even on jittery surfaces where the old one would have bounced around a bit.
  • It seems to go around corners by telepathy! It's a while since I drove a Fiesta but from what I remember the i10 is as good as the Ford for handling.
  • Decent economy; about 55 mpg easily achieved on the long trips and high-40s around town.

Only downside was that it did not come with a spare wheel (not even a space saver -- just the puncture repair gunge). I got a space saver and tools off Ebay for 60 quid but I think this omission might have been corrected by Hyundai now.

Hope that's helpful.

Had mine for 6 months now and really impressed - feels like a car 1 size up. Replaced a new shape Polo and apart from lack of soft touch plastics [ Don't really care ] feels a better car and very pleasant to drive. Mine is premium automatic which has an 'old fashioned' torque converter auto box which is less efficient than DSG's etc but much cheaper and very good to drive. My mileage is only about 7K a year so higher fuel consumption less of a 'problem' and greater chance of relability ?
