Peugeot 406 diesel 2.1TD if not OBD2 - what diagnostic system was used on 1998 S reg - crankit

There appears to be a socket close to the fuse box , under the drivers side dash . it has the pins but does not register with OBD2 . I phoned the agents and they said they did not know if it was or not OBD2 compliant .

Does anyone know the answer to this one ? How do the agents diagnose ?

Is this car fitted with a large rectangular socket ,rather than a 16 pin obd type.?Even if it has the obd socket,it will not be Obd 2 compliant,it is too old.

If that is the case , how do the agents use the system to diagnose faults .like air bag lights etc ?

OBD compliant only relates to the engine system.All other electronic systems fitted to the car with a diagnostic facility can be read with appropriate equipt,but is not available cheaply.Main dealer will have this to check pre 2000 built cars.There are also many indy garages that would have the necessary equipt.
