I bought the used car, which was about a year old, from the Hyundai dealership. It's been serviced by them at the approprtiate intervals.

It's done about 57K miles. The car is nearly five years old.

Faults or recalls whilst owning the car:

The service book issued was not for my car, but for a Petrol automatic. It stated sevice interval should be 12months or 1 year, which ever is the earlist.

Should state one year or 20K miles which ever is the earlist.

The air condtioner not working. (sorted by dealer)

The radiator overflow tank, below the minimum mark.

The dash has had to be replaced.

The drivers door, would not open, sorted by dealer.

Offside headlights not working ( new wiring loom replaced by dealer.)

Front brake check ( mine OK)

Rear brake light switch (replaced)

New battery after two years (just out of warranty) Now OK

Front nearside headlamp cluster-condensation (sorted by dealer)

Difficulty in starting from cold. Glow plugs to be replaced by dealer.

(it's taken 2 weeks so far) Diffioculkty getting the glow plug out and snapped, they have had to call in an auto engine specialist, they may have to take the cyliner head off to get at the part.)

Take care when puchasing a similar car to mine?

There are more faults that you would expect for a car of that age/milage but sounds like your dealer has been very good.

"12months or 1 year, which ever is the earlist."

I would have thought they would be both the same!
Doesn't sound bad for 1-5 years old.

Not especially bad, as for the service being presumably 12k miles or one year for the petrol version, that sounds a better bet for the Diesel too, 20k? not on your nelly, not as your getting anywhere near that annual mileage.

Glow plugs are an issue on many modern Diesels, i can't quite work out why this should be so, they used to come out spark plug like without the slightest problem (as did injectors) on older iDi engines, if i was to buy a Diesel again (most unlikely) i think i'd be removing and refitting the glow plugs every couple of year to make sure this didn't happen.

Injectors getting stuck in have seen MB A Class engines (and complete cars) written off, apparently you can't get the head off without getting the injectors out, seen pics of 3 ft long slide hammers welded to the things and strong men battering hell out of them and still they won't shift, but then first A Class was a horrid design, period.

Your dealer sounds OK to me too.

It's electrolytic corrosion between the steel glowplugs and modern alloy materials used in engine blocks now.

Same with injectors. There are companies now that are specially set up to remove injectors - it must be big business for them considering the number of engines in existence with this problem. They use hydraulic pullers. Some engines that snap cambelts end up snapping the rockers rather than bending the valves, so the head has to come off.

Probably better to pay a specialist than risk damaging the rest of the engine trying to remove them.

If you look at the hyundai owners forum, your problems are not uncommon

As the car is less than 5 years old, isn't this covered by 5 year warranty?

Is the same engine used by KIA? They have a 7 year warranty....
