Citroën is meeting tough Euro 6 requirements for NO x emission reductions with the application of its SCR technology. BlueHDi powered New Berlingo models have an efficient, three-stage SCR process to treat emissions caused by combustion:

– Stage 1: an oxidisation catalyst converts the unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) in the exhaust into water and carbon dioxide (CO 2 )

– Stage 2: the SCR module then adds AdBlue to convert nitrogen oxide (NO x) into nitrogen (N) and water

– Stage 3: a particulate filter then eliminates 99.9% of particles in the vehicle’s exhaust emissions

BlueHDi powered New Berlingo vans have a 17-litre AdBlue tank, which will last for up to 14,000 miles, depending on the type of vehicle operation. AdBlue is widely available from various outlets, including Citroën dealers.

I know the link is for the berlingo van, but the same will apply to the facelift Berlingo Multispace when it arrives in the summer.

Diesel technology is getting very complicated

Why cant Citroen bring out a decent petrol engine for the Berlingo Multispace?

The 1.6 98bhp is sluggish if you carrying anything in the back.

Mercedes Bluetec vehicles use Adblue and have been around a number of years.

If it does away with the EGR that's of some benefit

Some VW use it also.

The Mazda CX-5 2.2 diesel has been euro6 since 2012 without adblue.

But does it work in normal driving, as opposed to the standard emissions tests? I read that manufacturers can detect when an engine is being emissions tested, and reduce emissions accordingly! In contrast on the road modern diesels do not behave as claimed.

This was true about 1970 in the US but was firmly stamped upon-it is no longer true. The current regulations/directives state that the inspecting authority must satisfy themselves that the vehicle will operate normally on the road as well as in the laboratory-they also check RANDOM PRODUCTION vehicles.

Unfortunately, but it has to in order to meet international emissions controls.

BMW have also had it on some models for a year or 2.

Have you looked into the possibility of a remap? It might safely give you an extra 20bhp.

The 1.6 petrol in the current multispace is an old tech engine, it's considered reliable but lacks the low torque you need in a car the size of a berlingo multispace if your carrying loads.

wait for the 110 Puretech 1.2 3 cylinder to take over from this engine - shouldn't be too long now.

If the headache adblue on lorries can be is anything to go by, then an out of warranty car so equipped might be an interesting development, no doubt by passable, even quietly switchable when the aftermarket tuners currently de-dpfing get to grips with the system.
