Mazda 3 - Mazda rust issues fixed in 07 and up facelifts ? - insprial

Hi All

I've been looking at buying an old Mazda 3 (04 - 07) but am rapidly going off the idea due to the frequency of rust issues. eg. Went to see a "mint" 55k 04 Sport only to find it had just been sent to the bodyshop for new wings.

Does anyone know if the 07 facelift cars are any better ?

Thanks.

We've had 3 Mk1, 4 Mk2 and 1 Mk3 so far and the Mk1 was recalled for underseal issues in the rear wheelarches (55plate) The 58plate Mk1 did have a wiper motor recall. The Mk2 seemed better & no recalls - did get into the habit of throroughly cleaning the rear arches though and the liner which felt like carpet tile did need a good clean after the winter and it rested on the wheel arch ledge and trapped the winter salt. Mazda still have a ledge where the wingmetal is bent in - some cars done away with this salt trap.

After the first underside clean on a Peugeot, the amount of crap on the drive after the deep clean meant every car since has an annual rinsing so havent found rust on the 3's BUT they were sold at 3-4yr old so cant vouch for a 10yo version
